Mali the Elephant May Live in Thailand

Those who have been affected by Mali the Elephant’s plight, will be relieved to know the wheels of political action are moving her cause in the right direction. Initially, it’s distressing to know that a vulnerable animal is living in sub-humane conditions. Especially, if this animal is in an enclosure in a foreign country where political communication may be difficult due to language barriers and/or different cultural approaches to animal welfare.

We know the situation for the animal is dire when high profile stars, such as Morrisey, Brigitte Bardot and Yusaf Islam (aka Cat Stevens), climb on board the rescue mission.  Responding to Morrisey’s request of releasing Mali, Philippine President Benigno Aquino III considered this may be possible after a travel health check. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), sent Dr. Henry Melvyn Richardson to examine Mali. He found that she has malformed feet due to living on concrete.

It is my hope that I will, one day in the very near future, read that Mali is on a plane to begin her new life in a forest in the Thai  Elephant Conservation Centre of Lampang, Thailand.
